Let’s talk GMO

Let’s talk GMO

"What impacts do GMOs have in our everyday lives?"

First things first, what is GMO?

GMOGenetically Modified Organism

Living organisms whose genetic materials have been artificially manipulated to create a breed that does not occur in nature.

How GMOs are impacting farmers

Farmers that choose not to participate in the use of GMOs are at constant risk of losing autonomy over their crops. When nearby GMO crops contaminate organic farms, even through natural pollination, companies that own the GMO seeds have the right to sue.

Especially for small-scale farmers, they can end up losing their entire territory to big companies.

Our partner farmers have been harvesting the same sesame seeds that have been passed down through many generations. They go through great lengths to ensure that there are no crops containing GMOs nearby that can threaten their lands and their seeds.

How GMOs are impacting the environment

More than 80% of GMO crops are engineered to tolerate herbicides. This results in higher use of toxic herbicides, which eventually goes into our land, water, and bodies.

GMOs are also responsible for the creation of “superweeds” and “superbugs.” These can only be exterminated through the use of even more toxic poisons such as 2,4-D (a major ingredient in Agent Orange).

Why choose non-GMO products

By becoming conscious consumers and voting with every purchase, we send a message in the right direction. Cast a vote towards the growth and empowerment of organic, sustainable farming practices.
